In collaboration with the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) as a knowledge partner, the Chamber had the pleasure of hosting a lunch event for members and friends today. The topic explored was what is purposeful business and does it help businesses become more competitive and achieve more positive societal impact? Key learning points include businesses are expected to benefit the communities they live and work in. Indeed, they are expected and need to do more than ever. SICC Board Directors and panel members Mr Abel Ariza, President of Malaysia & Singapore for Sodexo and Mr Anthony Lim, Founder and Executive Chairman of Acclaim Insurance Brokers both demonstrated that being purposeful beyond profit increases competitiveness, improves morale and talent retention and enables their businesses to be positively impactful. The secret is when being purposeful is enshrined in company values and the behaviours which demonstrate those values. The link here with positive workplace culture is crystal clear. Abel’s and Anthony’s practices and experiences were validated by their panel colleague Mr Tony Soh, Chief Executive Officer of NVPC who shared NVPC’s examples of successful, purposeful businesses. The panel conversation and audience dialogue were skilfully moderated by Chamber member, Ms Sunitha Chalam, Partner, Brunswick Group.
