Sustainable Giving

19 March 2024 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am

SICC Members' Room

Our Sustainability Event Series is exclusively sponsored by Singapore American School (SAS). We held our first event in the series this year by showcasing how giving can and should be sustainable for the business community. Millennium Hotels and Resorts and Chamber member PwC Singapore provided insights on their approaches and key programmes. This was followed by a panel conversation with Mr. Jack Lim, Managing Director, Community Chest, Mr. Andy Tan, Senior Vice President, Global Sales, Partnership & Operations, South-East Asia, Millennium Hotels and Resorts, Mr. Tony Lai, Chief Operating Officer, National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) and Ms. Tan Yee Deng, Chief Human Resources Officer, PwC Singapore moderated by Mr. Victor Mills, Chief Executive, SICC.

Here’s what we learnt:

  • Create a workplace culture that fosters trust, inclusion, employee engagement and empowerment because only by getting your house in order can you begin to help others.
  • If you’re in retail, involve your staff, customers, vendors and suppliers in your giving programmes.
  • Leadership at all levels plays an important role in aligning all forms of giving with the core values and business model of the organization.
  • Clear and regular communication is key to establish broad understanding of goals, to raise awareness of them and to inspire collective action.
  • More SMEs can be involved via MNEs collaborating with their SME suppliers and vendors.
  • Positive societal impact takes input, dedication and action from everyone.

Many thanks, once again to our speakers for their time and for sharing the how of sustainable giving, to our exclusive sponsor SAS and to our audience members for their active participation.
