🤝 Strengthening Singapore-Japan Partnerships for the Future
Last Thursday evening, SICC and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Singapore (JCCI) came together to commemorate SJ60, the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan, with an exclusive networking reception for senior business leaders.
Bringing together leaders from Singaporean and Japanese enterprises, the evening created opportunities to deepen cross-border connections, exchange perspectives and celebrate the enduring partnership between our two nations.
The evening commenced with welcome remarks by Mr Kakihara Daisuke, President of JCCI Singapore, followed by Special Guest, H.E. Ishikawa Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Singapore. Guest-of-Honour, Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reflected on the longstanding friendship between Singapore and Japan, highlighting how business communities such as SICC and JCCI continue to play a vital role in fostering trade, investment and economic collaboration.
🍶 A memorable moment of the evening was the traditional Kagami Biraki (sake barrel-breaking ceremony) – a Japanese custom symbolising the opening of new beginnings, prosperity, harmony and shared success. As the wooden lid was ceremonially broken, it served as a fitting reflection of the strong and forward-looking partnership between our business communities.
SICC Chairman, Mr Wong Joo Seng, then led a celebratory toast before guests continued the evening over dinner and meaningful conversations, strengthening relationships that will shape future collaboration.
The reception concluded with closing remarks by our CEO, Ms Bita Seow, who reflected on the enduring strength of the Singapore-Japan partnership as both countries look towards the next chapter of cooperation.
As the voice of international business in Singapore, SICC remains committed to creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue, strengthening international partnerships and connecting businesses to drive sustainable economic growth.
