In this fireside chat on the topic “The Future isn’t Digital”, moderated by Prof. Jan Ondrus, Associate Dean of Faculty, ESSEC Asia-Pacific, our guest speaker, Mr. Neal Cross, Co-Founder and Chairman, PictureWealth, and well-known innovation evangelist talked about how tech doesn’t solve problems, humans do. They are the ones who write the codes, after all.

Neal is a great believer in going back to first principles. He recommended that before a business rushes to build a customized, expensive platform or an app, it asks itself: what problems are we trying to solve? Innovation should always be focussed on finding the right problem not just the symptoms. Neal also recommended SMEs buy off the shelf solutions as all the large scale providers have packages to suit most business needs.

In answer to the question how can digital banks be sustainably successful, Neal contended that digital banking has to be a regional play not a Singapore domestic play given the small size of our market.
