SICC Board Focus Series: Cybersecurity and the Board

16 November 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Webinar

The Chamber’s first Board Focus Series webinar on 16 November 2021 was the result of a successful collaboration between the Chamber and member companies Brunswick Group and Control Risks. This new event series is specially conceptualised for company Boards and aims to cover risks, topics and themes Boards focus on today – irrespective of company size or sector. The inaugural session was on cybersecurity risk which is not only an IT risk. It is a business risk given our reliance on digital systems and mobile devices. It is the responsibility of everyone in a company – including the Board – to protect data, capabilities and the business. The Board is instrumental in setting the right tone to foster a culture of individual and collective accountability for cybersecurity. Through a close partnership with the management team, Boards provide oversight and governance and help shape policies and procedures to better manage risks. They do this by leveraging on the collective experience of Board members to constructively challenge the management team on their level of cyber preparedness and their crisis management plan. A critical aspect of the latter is communications with internal and external parties.

We would like to thank our expert guest speakers Ms. Sunitha Chalam, Partner to the Brunswick Group and Mr. Jim Fitzsimmons, Principal and Head of Cyber Security Consulting for Asia Pacific of Control Risks for sharing their insights and knowledge. They and their colleagues help companies manage cyber and other business risks. Our thanks too to the audience for their questions and to our Board Member Stephen Revell for initiating this series.
