Celebrating The Chamber’s 188th Birthday

6 February 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Amara Singapore

We held a triple celebration for members and guests yesterday evening at Amara Singapore. We were celebrating the Chamber’s 188th birthday and the Lunar New Year Festival. The number “188” or “yat fatt fatt” in Cantonese is especially auspicious symbolizing, as it does, enduring prosperity and success. The 9th day of the Lunar New Year Festival was the perfect occasion for celebration especially as it fell on the 6th February itself the anniversary of the founding of modern Singapore by Raffles in 1819. Hence the triple celebration! 🎉

Amara Singapore’s F&B Team created a wonderful Lo-Hei in the shape of a snake and our guests had great fun tossing the salad in hope and expectation of good fortune in the Year of the wood Snake! 🐍

In his opening remarks Victor Mills said in Chinese astrology the snake symbolizes wisdom, strategic intent and tactical agility. Just like the snake sheds its skin, Victor wished everyone would shed negativity and embrace positivity for collective success. He continued that celebrating the Chamber’s birthday means celebrating all members past and present because it is the members who make the Chamber.

We would like to thank Amara Singapore’s General Manager Gordon Aeria and his dedicated team for their excellent hospitality and generous sponsorship of the venue and the wines. It was a fantastic evening, bringing together our members, including some of those who serve on the Board, special guests and friends as well as the Secretariat team to celebrate the Chamber’s legacy, the new lunar year and the 206th anniversary of the founding of modern Singapore.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for this special occasion. We wish all our members, friends and guests continued success in the Year of the Snake and many more years of collaboration and success! 🍊🍊
