Buildings: a Sustainable Future

9 December 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Webinar

We kicked off our new Sustainability Series today. Conceptualised in collaboration with Chamber member and Exclusive Event Sponsor Singapore American School (SAS), this series focuses on two key pillars of sustainability: people and our planet. We focus on their interdependencies and needs as well as our collective responsibility to protect our planet to sustain our quality of life and for future generations. Today’s webinar put the focus on green buildings with the spotlight on SAS’ own campus as a case study. This campus is one of the first buildings in Singapore to adopt the BCA Green Mark 2021, which is part of the Singapore Green Building Masterplan.

We were honoured to have two passionate guest speakers, Ar. Tang Kok Thye, President of the Singapore Green Building Council and Mr. Simon Thomas, Director of Facilities and Services of Singapore American School (SAS) to share their expertise and insights with the audience. Kok Thye charted Singapore’s green building journey from when it first started in 2005 and shared the Green Building Master Plan’s 2030 target and the measures in place to achieve this target. Simon talked about SAS’ high-performing buildings and smart campus vision, reiterating that sustainability remains one of their key drivers. SAS’s focus will always be about creating a healthy and conducive learning environment for students and staff to enhance both mental and physical wellness and overall engagement.

The Chamber thanks Kok Thye and Simon for their time and for a very engaging dialogue.
