Board Focus Series: Unpacking the S risks in ESG

5 April 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Webinar

The Chamber’s third Board Focus Series webinar on 5 April 2022 saw a continuation of the strategic collaboration between the Chamber and member companies Brunswick Group, Control Risks and Shearman & Sterling. This time a panel of expert practitioners took a deep dive into the S in ESG – the people or social risks and responsibilities that Boards need to consider and make decisions about.

The webinar started off with a keynote address by Ms. Joanna Donne, Partner, Brunswick Group. Joanna highlighted why it is important for companies to demonstrate social value as well as financial value.

Joanna was then joined by fellow panellists Mr. James Lewry, Director, Control Risks and Mr. Matthew Skinner, Partner, Shearman & Sterling in a conversation expertly moderated by Ms. Chloé Vialard, Senior Associate, Shearman & Sterling. A key takeaway from this webinar is businesses can no longer ignore social risks and responsibilities because stakeholders will not allow them to.

As the Chamber has been advocating for some time, surely the number one people priority for every Board is to make sure they and their senior leadership team work with all teams to co-create and co-sustain a positive workplace culture where each individual and the business can excel? Arguably, if Boards and businesses get this right, they will manage E and G risks better.

The Chamber thanks the panellists for their time and for sharing their insights and knowledge.

We look forward to welcoming you to the next Board Focus Series event which will touch on the G in ESG.
