The Chamber’s Innovation Series on 3 October met with overwhelming interest from members. Close to 200 members visited Google’s HQ and heard from our guest speaker, Simon Kahn, Chief Marketing Officer of Google Asia Pacific. Simon spoke passionately about how businesses can maximise the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve processes and enhance customer engagement. His presentation covered 3 main themes – predictive analysis, process automation and intelligent engagement.

Simon shared how the healthcare industry is using machine learning and advanced algorithms to analyse huge amounts of data that can help them identify health issues ahead of time. One example includes using the back of a patient’s eye scan to make predictions against the patient’s risk of experiencing a severe cardiac incident. Similarly for the farming industry, farmers in the Netherlands have already adopted machine learning to revolutionise the way they used to rear cattle.

In yet a different industry, Kewpie, which is widely known for its mayonnaise products, uses machine learning to spot defects during food processing. This task used to be labour-intensive but process automation has dramatically increased the company’s production capabilities.

Simon’s talk reinforced the power of technology in reinventing the way businesses operate and changing or even replacing today’s jobs.

Prior to the talk, members were treated to a breakfast spread prepared by Google. We would like to thank the Google team for their warm hospitality and all members for their enthusiastic participation at this event. This is the final Innovation Series of the year and we look forward to bringing you an exciting and new line-up of talks for the 2019 Innovation Series!
