2024 AGM & Luncheon

25 June 2024 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Marina Bay Sands

We held our 183rd AGM followed by the annual luncheon attended by hundreds of Chamber members and distinguished guests from the business community, government and the Diplomatic Corps on 25 June 2024.

After the luncheon, our Guest of Honour Mr. Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education dialogued with the audience on the topic of education in the widest sense of the word. The dialogue was moderated by Ms. Wong Su-Yen, Chairperson James Cook University, Singapore.

Here are some of the gems from the masterclass/dialogue:-

💡What is creativity? There are many answers to this question but one definition worth thinking about is creativity is a disciplined approach to creating new value.

💡Each of us should take a long-term perspective to education. The first 15 years are important but the next 50 years are even more crucial. As such, employers play a critical role to help develop a skilled workforce that can remain competitive and relevant.

💡Employers, hiring managers and HR teams should send the right signal by valuing skills over credentials when they recruit. There is no such thing as the perfect candidate. Value and choose candidates of good character and integrity with the ability and willingness to learn and keep learning.

💡A vital attribute in every student and employee is the ability to ask the right questions to keep learning and adapting.

💡Thanks to technology there is too much information for anyone to assimilate. The Singapore education system is evolving to build a competitive workforce with strong ability to distil, discern genuine from fake news and apply information.

💡Partnerships between government, industry and academia remain the best way to produce a workforce that puts Singapore at the forefront of the skills cycle. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eYtxhVbt.

The Chamber thanks Minister Chan for a masterclass, Su-Yen for her expert moderation and our audience for truly dialoguing with our Guest of Honour.
