Singapore – Recent Developments in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

This seminar focuses on recent developments in Singapore as it consolidates and continues to strengthen its position in the region as a leading venue for dispute resolution. Traditionally, ADR meant alternative dispute resolution, but with these developments, should it now read as “appropriate dispute resolution”? Singapore enjoys a global reputation as a leading arbitration hub. It also boasts a dedicated international commercial court for determining complex cross border disputes. Singapore will also lend its name to the United Nations Convention on the Enforcement of Mediation Settlements to be signed next year.

We are pleased to have three distinguished speakers to provide an update on recent developments in appropriate dispute resolution in Singapore. We will hear from Mr Laurence Wong (Senior Director, Business Development in the Singapore International Commercial Court) in relation to the continued growth of the SICC, from Ms Michelle Chiam (Deputy Centre Director, Singapore International Arbitration Centre) about recent innovations with the SIAC, and from Mr Chuan Wee Meng (Director, International Partnerships, Singapore International Mediation Centre) about the rise of mediation in Singapore and the Singapore Mediation Convention.

The seminar will be of interest to counsel who are involved in drafting or advising on dispute resolution provisions in contracts, and who engage with business disputes in Singapore and regionally.
