SICC was delighted to host a thought-provoking session this afternoon on “Agentic AI in Education: Trust, Safety and Ethics.” Members of the Education Services Interest Group (EDSIG) attended the session, which also marked the group’s first IG meeting of the year. We were also pleased to welcome members from the Singapore Association for Private Education (SAPE) joining us.
Our speaker, Dr Tun Thura Thet, Chief Solutions Architect at Nirvasoft Pte Ltd, delivered an insightful and highly engaging presentation, as he walked us through the rapid evolution of AI in education — from Machine Learning and Large Language Models to Generative AI, and now the emergence of Agentic AI.
Key takeaways from the session:
– AI is already transforming education across teaching, learning, assessment, and operations
– The rise of AI agents enables powerful use cases such as always-on tutors, faculty copilots, and campus operations assistants
– While opportunities are significant, risks are equally real — including bias, hallucination, privacy concerns, and over-reliance
– Responsible AI must be at the core — with strong emphasis on governance, transparency, human oversight, and ethical use
– Institutions must start small, build AI literacy, and govern from day one as they scale adoption
The discussion also reinforced an important reminder: AI can augment education, but it cannot replace the human elements of teaching, judgement, and mentorship.
We also had the privilege of hearing from Dr Maylyn Tan, Executive Dean, Kaplan Singapore, who shared insights on Digital Learning and AI adoption at Kaplan City Campus, showcasing how Kaplan integrates technology and AI in learning environments to enhance student engagement.
It was encouraging to see strong engagement from the education community as we collectively explore how to harness AI responsibly and effectively for better learning outcomes.
We thank Dr Tun for sharing his expertise, to members in the EDSIG and SAPE for their active engagement, and to Kaplan for generously providing their venue for this session.
