🔎 Understanding a Changing Global Order | The Leadership Series with Professor Kishore Mahbubani
In an era of geopolitical uncertainty and shifting global power dynamics, understanding the forces reshaping our world has never been more critical.
SICC was honoured to welcome Professor Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore, for a thought-provoking Leadership Series exploring what the Asian century means for businesses, governments and leaders.
Following welcome remarks by our CEO, Ms Bita Seow, Professor Mahbubani framed the discussion around the “3 Ms“: multi-civilisation, multilateral and multipolar. He shared perspectives on the geopolitical shifts shaping today’s world, describing the current landscape as the “calm before the storm” and reflecting on how our increasingly interconnected world has become a small global village.
Moderated by Mr Poon King Wang, Chief Strategy and Design AI Officer, Office of Strategic Planning at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), as well as Director of Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities, the dialogue explored Singapore’s strong positioning amid global change, the growing anticipation of the Asian century, China’s remarkable transformation and the importance of gaining first-hand perspectives to better understand today’s evolving world. The conversation also touched on developments across Indonesia, India, the United States and Europe, underscoring the importance of education and global exposure.
Against this backdrop, strategic foresight, adaptability and a deeper understanding of geopolitical developments will remain important considerations for businesses navigating an increasingly multipolar world.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Professor Mahbubani for sharing his valuable insights, to Mr Poon King Wang for expertly moderating the discussion and to all attendees for their active participation in contributing to a rich and meaningful discussion.
SICC remains committed to bringing together business leaders, policymakers and experts to exchange perspectives on the trends shaping Singapore, Asia and the future of business.
