The Signature Series: Dr Tan See Leng

27 April 2026, 4.00pm - 5.30pm

Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre

Members gathered for a timely exchange with Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Minister-in-Charge of Energy and Science & Technology at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, on how workforce dynamics, business priorities and economic resilience are converging in today’s environment.

Dr Tan’s opening remarks centered on three interrelated themes shaping the operating landscape:

  • Productive longevity: Ensuring older workers can remain engaged and productive for as long as they choose, against the backdrop of an ageing population and low fertility rate.
  • Navigating AI and structural change: Future-proofing the workforce against AI-driven transformation while sustaining a thriving business environment that attracts investment and entrepreneurship.
  • The workplace as the site of change: Ultimately, it is at the workplace where all these shifts play out, making it all the more important that it remains a fair and supportive place for everyone.

In the panel dialogue moderated by SICC Chairman, Mr Wong Joo Seng, the conversation explored the realities of operating amid growing geopolitical complexity. While “keeping calm and carrying on” remains a useful principle, doing so requires deliberate effort. For Singapore, being at the crossroads of East and West underscores the importance of staying consistent, trusted, open, and connected.

There was also a clear emphasis on people as a defining advantage. Human capital, across backgrounds and perspectives, continues to be a critical source of strength, particularly in navigating uncertainty and driving innovation.

On AI adoption, the discussion reinforced the need of anchoring technology in human-centric outcomes. As organisations explore new applications, the role of “AI champions” within businesses will be key in bridging strategy, capability, and responsible implementation.

We thank Dr Tan for his valuable insights, our Chairman for steering the dialogue, and our members and guests for an engaged discussion.

SICC remains committed to convening these conversations to support businesses in navigating change, strengthening connections, and advancing sustainable growth.
