Dear Members and
Friends
You’ll have
heard the phrase: “life is short.” It
is. We all need to focus on life on
enjoying our work and the activities we
like doing and spending time with those
we love and whose company we enjoy. Many
of you will have experienced cancer or
know someone who is going through
treatment. Here’s a short article from
Singapore Cancer Society on how it can
help companies help their teams.
Keep the focus on life today and every
day.
Yours faithfully
Victor Mills
Chief Executive
Cancer is a
word, not a sentence
Every day, about 35 Singaporeans will
get news that they have been diagnosed
with cancer. This works out to about
13,000 new cancer cases a year. 1 in 3
deaths in Singapore is caused by cancer.
Alarming statistics but real and close
to home for many of us.
You can’t
control if it happens, but you can
change the ending. As the saying goes,
“We cannot direct the wind but we can
adjust the sails”. With early detection,
modern medicine and advanced treatment
regimes, cancer does not become a death
sentence, but a mere word.
In a
highly competitive society, employees
spend a large part of their time at
work. Companies can help save lives by
promoting cancer screening in the
workplace, supporting employees who are
undergoing cancer treatment or by
employing cancer survivors. Singapore
Cancer Society is happy to support your
efforts through roadshows, screenings
and talks offered by
Singapore Cancer Society.
For
those who are directly impacted by
cancer, our society aims to journey with
them in the recovery process and
maintain quality of life through our
programmes and services such as support
groups, counselling or rehabilitation.
Our aim is no one will fight cancer
alone.
