Dear Members and Friends
Can
we win the race against climate
change? Thanks to Singapore’s
rather fortunate geographical
location, the island city-state
is spared from natural
disasters. However, this does
not mean that we are safe from
the impacts of climate change.
Such impacts are prevalent
globally and the rising rate is
a fairly obvious plea for
smarter solutions in global
climate action efforts.
The 28th
Conference of the Parties to the
UN Framework Convention on
Climate Change (COP28)
presidency called for a
worldwide effort to harness the
rise of Artificial Intelligence
(AI) for climate action. Despite
AI’s many contributions to
climate action, it is believed
to be a double-edged sword. From
enhancing accuracy in weather
forecasts to reducing disaster
risks, AI has the potential to
accelerate our journey in
achieving the global Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), but it
very much depends on how good
the data it has been trained on.
Carbon footprint and ethical
regulations of AI solutions,
much as the data accuracy, are
some areas to be carefully
considered when leveraging AI
technology.
The
Chamber is privileged to invite
Mr. Spencer Low, Google's
Head of Sustainability in APAC to share about the impact of AI on
climate action on 10 October
2024. Discover insights on how
AI is both a solution and
challenge and how it serves as a
climate action tool in this
decisive decade. This is the
fourth instalment of the 2024
Sustainability Event Series
organized by the Chamber,
exclusively sponsored by our
Principal Strategic Partner the
Singapore American School,
where it delivers relevant
business content around the two
key pillars of sustainability –
people and planet.
As
always, seats are limited so you
are encouraged to
register soon.
Yours faithfully
