Dear Members and
Friends
I
was very sorry to miss last
week’s Year End Reception due to
a family bereavement. Had I
attended, what follows is what I
would have said in my opening
remarks:-
“Distinguished
guests, Chamber members and
colleagues. Good evening and
thank you all for taking the
time to attend this Year End
Reception. You will recall this
reception was originally
designed to double as my
farewell before I stepped down
as Chief Executive at the end of
this year. As you know, plans
have changed and I will continue
to be employed by the Chamber
until 31 December 2024 while the
search for my successor
continues.
I have now served the
Chamber for over 10 years and it
continues to be the most
enjoyable job I have had so far.
I have learned so much from a
broad and deep network of people
like you in the private and
public sectors and from
academia. They and you have all
helped me become more confident
of my voice which I have used
consistently in the last 10
years in fulfilment of the
purpose of our wonderful Chamber
which is to help businesses and
Singapore.
I want to thank the
Chamber’s 2013 Board of
Directors chaired by Rolf Gerber
for giving me the opportunity to
serve and for supporting me as I
learned the ropes. I also want
to thank succeeding Boards of
Directors for all their varied
and various contributions.
The Chamber would not be a
Chamber without members and, to
all SICC members past and
present, I want to say thank you
for your input and support over
the last decade. You are the
reason my team and I exist.
Every good leader knows it
is never about him or her. It is
always about the team, the team
and the team. I have been so
fortunate in the colleagues I
work with and I want you and
them to know how important they
are to me and how much I enjoy
working with them. To every
colleague I say thank you for
all your contributions,
dedication and, especially, for
our optimal teamwork. You have
made and make all the difference
to my time in the Chamber.
Together we have succeeded and
will continue to succeed.
Ladies and gentlemen,
please join me in saluting my
exceptional team!
