Dear
Members and Friends
One of the first things overseas
visitors say about Singapore is
it is so clean. We are so lucky
to live in a planned city where
cleanliness and greenery are
appreciated.
However,
those of us who live here full
time know in many ways we are
not so much a clean city as a
cleaned city. This is all down
to a veritable army of cleaners
who tidy up after the less
considerate of us. At current
levels, this practice is not
sustainable either in terms of
behaviour, costs or manpower. We
all need to step up.
25
April 2021 was the inaugural SG
Clean Day designed to enforce
the message if we want a clean
and green Singapore we all have
to do our part. That’s what
civic mindedness means:
consideration for our common
spaces which are there for
everyone to enjoy and
consideration for others.
The SG Clean Day is now held
quarterly. Cleaning at selected
common spaces such as
dormitories, public parks,
gardens, park connectors,
reservoirs, malls, public
transport nodes and housing
estates across 17 towns will
cease on this day. This is to
demonstrate how much litter we
accumulate and how much we owe
our cleaners. It is also a day
on which we are reminded of our
personal and collective
responsibility to keep common
spaces like our estates, beaches
and parks clean.
The next
SG Clean Day will take place on
30 July 2023. This is a great
opportunity for you to organize
a clean-up with your family,
friends and colleagues at one of
the neighbourhoods or beaches.
Let’s all work towards a
sustainable, clean Singapore by
increasing the practice of civic
mindedness, by leading by
example and by always thinking
of others before ourselves. That
way we will achieve a better
environment and society for all
of us to live in. More
information on this opportunity
to make a difference can be

Have a purposeful
and productive week ahead.
Yours faithfully
