I read last week’s MemberCONNECT with much concern. This year’s workplace fatality rate is unacceptably high never mind the near misses.
What if there’s a solution that would boost your existing safety efforts, is accretive to human capital initiatives and ESG’s “S” and “G” pillars?
I would like to introduce
TotalWSH, a holistic and integrated approach to manage workplace and workers’ safety and health risks. It goes beyond making the workplace safe. It looks at how the health of a worker can impact safety and productivity at work. For example, workers with chronic conditions such as diabetes may experience dizziness or poor vision while handling machinery leading to serious accidents.
Managing underlying health conditions, redesigning work practices and finding a suitable approach to address the health of the entire company is vital for sustained success. Implementing TotalWSH will translate into strong business performance, avoid reputation damage, reduce the risk of workplace injuries and ill-health and also lower absenteeism and healthcare costs.
Start with a health survey to understand your workers’ needs. Separately, you can tap on WSHCouncil’s fully funded programme to engage
a service provider to support your TotalWSH journey.
Together we can achieve Vision Zero, so that everyone can work safely and go home safe and sound.
