Dear
Members and Friends
Now that the retirement age and
re-employment age have been
raised to 63 and 68
respectively, with effect from
2022, the time has come to move
from words on anti-ageism to
action. This means individual,
corporate and societal action.
In other words, action from each
of us.
Action to ensure
Singapore stays exceptional in
its attitudes and approaches to
better manage its own
demographic changes. Whether you
are a 23 or 63 year old job
candidate, companies should hire
based on:- |
-
Your attitude – do you have
a positive work attitude?
Are you able and willing to
work in cross-functional and
cross-border teams? Can you
communicate effectively
orally and in writing?
-
Your character – are you
able to articulate the
values you live by and how
they translate into your
work? How do you treat
people and how do you expect
them to treat you?
-
Your skills and competencies
– what do you bring to the
table and what skills gaps
do you have?
-
Your potential – this is one
for the employers to assess
based on your responses to
the first 3 criteria.
|
Act now to stamp out ageism in
the workforce and in society.
The time for talking is over and
it is your job to do so in your
own best interests. You will be
63 faster than you think. The
talent pool is
multi-generational. Embrace that
and put all generations to work
for your business.
Yours
faithfully
Victor Mills
