Dear
Members and Friends
We were all encouraged when it
was announced earlier in the
year that the 2021 National Day
Parade (NDP) would take place at
the Floating Platform at Marina
Bay. It was a welcome indication
of progress after a challenging
year managing Covid-19 and
beginning to learn what it will
mean and take to live with it.
That the NDP had to be
postponed until 21 August
because of recent spikes in
Covid-19 cases disappointed
everyone – especially the
planners and parade
participants. Thankfully, a
ceremonial parade will be held
on our 56th National Day on 9
August. It was inconceivable the
anniversary of our independence
would not be observed.
Disappointing as these events no
doubt are, they call for us all
to keep calm and carry on. It is
not the end of the world and the
altered plans will not dampen
the mood on 9 August. For that
is the day we remember the far
more testing circumstances of
the birth of this country and
the resilience of our parents,
grandparents and leaders. The
future looked anything but
promising back in 1965 and yet
we only have to look around us
to know what has been achieved.
Resilience is not required
from just one generation but
from each succeeding one. It is
our turn not to be discouraged
but to keep the focus on the
task in hand: to build on the
foundations of the last 56
years. Like all societies we are
a work in progress and always
will be. Our time calls for
increased unity among all human
beings, for more innovation in
business, in processes and in
the way people are managed and
led at work. Majulah Singapura!
Yours faithfully
