Dear Members and Friends

As I never tire of reminding you, this Chamber was the first business association in Singapore to stand up for the circular economy. This is because it is the only realistic and sustainable solution for the human race and our planet. We need to reduce the amount of waste we produce, see waste as a resource material not something which ends up in an incinerator and/or landfill and repurpose it into something needed.

That is why I am so proud of your fellow member Dow led by Paul Fong. Paul and Dow believe in sustainability which is why the company has collaborated with Sport Singapore to create a permanent collection capability for (mainly) old sports shoes. The aim is to recycle 170,000 pairs of used shoes a year into infrastructure materials.

You now have the chance to give your used sports shoes a second lease of life and contribute to a more sustainable future for Singapore. Just drop your old shoes into one of the special Orange Bins at any of the 100 collection points around the island. These include participating ActiveSG sports centres and stadiums, Decathlon stores, schools and tertiary institutions and many more all over Singapore. It is deliberately convenient to make it easier for you to do the right thing.

Go that one step further and sponsor an Orange Bin. The first 200 have been sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank.

Each bin costs S$100. For sponsorship of at least 50 bins (hence S$5,000), Dow will display the sponsor organisation’s logo on the posters of the specific sponsored bins. Contact Paul Fong at [email protected] to sponsor.

More information on this wonderful initiative and the locations of the Orange Bins (the collection points) can be found at these links:-

Reduce. Recycle. Reuse.

Yours faithfully
