Dear Members
and Friends
Yesterday’s televised statement
by Prime Minister Lee Hsien
Loong on the status of
Singapore’s management of
Covid-19 was an excellent piece
of communication. There are
lessons we can all learn from
it.
1. Leaders act
because they care and they
communicate to explain, to
reassure and to encourage.
2. Leaders know they are part of
a team because they cannot do
everything themselves. The Prime
Minister allowed his ministerial
colleagues airtime to shine.
3. When dealing with a major
crisis it is important for
leadership teams to keep
learning from data – in this
case, scientific data – and to
adjust policies and procedures
accordingly.
4. Maintaining
trust and displaying empathy are
key leadership attributes. The
Prime Minister thanked everyone
for co-operating with the
current measures in force. He
recognised the inconvenience
that individuals and businesses
have to cope with.
While
we are not out of the woods yet
we are on our way. This testing
time will pass. It may take a
while but it will pass. In the
meantime we need to keep
ourselves, our homes and our
workplaces safe. The best way to
do that is to get vaccinated.
Keep safe and well.
Yours faithfully
Victor Mills
