Dear
Members and Friends
United Women Singapore (UWS) is
a local, non-profit organisation
with IPC status. It aims to
advance women’s empowerment and
gender equality to build a
pipeline of women leaders and
influencers in Singapore.
Domestic violence is endemic
everywhere and there has been
much discussion that the rate of
domestic violence has increased
all over the world due to
working from home and circuit
breakers here and lockdowns
elsewhere.
UWS is
developing a free handbook for
companies to help them create
their own domestic violence
workplace policy and is looking
for feedback and suggestions.
For example, do you know how to
spot the signs that someone is
either being abused or abusing
others? Do you know what to do
when you identify an abuser or
someone who is being abused?
The UWS draft handbook has
been created in consultation
with members of the Association
of Corporate Counsels and
representatives from the Social
Services sector.
SICC
strongly supports this cause
because we believe in equality
and we denounce all forms of
bullying and violence wherever
they take place. This is not a
naïve “world peace” stance but a
hardheaded commercial one. It
makes sense for leaders to focus
on how a workplace can both
impact domestic violence and
help address it. Keeping
employees safe, healthy and well
contributes significantly to the
success of every business. The
workplace can be a lifeline for
survivors and for perpetrators
of domestic violence offering
them an opportunity to get help.
We invite business
leaders to provide their input
and perspectives on the draft
handbook. Please send your
comments and suggestions either
to my colleague
[email protected] for
consolidation or to UWS direct.
draft handbook.
We will
be bringing you a UWS GenSafe
Foundational Workshop soon. Keep
a lookout for it.
With
best regards.
Yours faithfully
Victor Mills
