Dear
Members and Friends
Everyone knows leadership
matters. The truly appalling
scenes at the U.S. Capitol
Building last week provide all
of us with a case study of cause
and effect and of selfish and
debased leadership.
The
cause of the riot was President
Trump. He incited his followers
to march on The Capitol where
Congress was meeting in a joint
session to formally adopt the
Electoral College’s votes and to
confirm Mr. Biden as
President-Elect.
Mr.
Trump does not accept the result
of the Presidential Election
held last November and has spent
the weeks since falsely claiming
the election has been stolen. He
is the ultimate sore loser.
While that is regrettable, the
effect of his actions, his
delusion, his narcissism and,
above all, his selfishness was
deadly consequences. Five people
died as a result of the riot and
yet another blow was dealt to
U.S. democracy and to the
reputation of the United States
by its head of state. We might
expect that from a banana
republic but not from the United
States.
Selfless leaders
in business and in government
consistently enable, convene,
unite and act in the best, long
term interests of their teams,
their businesses and their
countries. They do not act to
extend their own selfish agendas
or stroke their vanity. Selfless
leaders uphold ethics, good
governance and the law. Selfless
leaders inspire others to do
likewise. These are the lessons
for all leaders everywhere.
Have a good week ahead.
Yours faithfully
Victor Mills
