Dear Members and Friends,
As a mature worker myself, I and
this Chamber have been
championing anti-ageism in the
workforce for over 6 years. Just
like gender, race and sexual
orientation, age is not a
relevant factor in assessing job
fit. Attitude, competencies,
skills, potential and output are
the key factors each employer
should focus on.
More
businesses are doing the right
things today. For example, there
is a greater recognition of the
social and commercial equity in
paying men and women the same
for doing the same job.
There is also a growing
recognition that more people are
living longer and need and want
to stay employed.
The
government has been doing its
bit too by planning to raise the
retirement and re-employment
ages. It has taken another step
to encourage more companies to
raise both before being legally
obliged to do so by way of
grants.
My thanks to our
friends at Singapore National
Employers Federation for sharing
the criteria and grant
computations of the Senior
Worker Early Adopter Grant
(SWEAG) and the Part-Time
Re-employment Grant (PTRG)
launched recently. Find out more

Have a good week ahead.
Yours faithfully
