Dear
Members and Friends
United Women Singapore (UWS)
has launched
a report in collaboration
with global market research
company IPSOS to shed light on
domestic abuse in Singapore. The
study reveals that 3 in 10
Singaporeans have either
experienced domestic abuse
themselves or someone close to
them has. 1 in 4 domestic abuse
cases in Singapore are faced by
men. An estimated 72% of women
abused by partners are not
likely to report it.
These statistics point to a high
probability of employees
suffering in silence and,
therefore, a potential spillover
effect at the workplace
affecting employee productivity,
absenteeism and the overall
workplace environment.
As
a part of the Task Force on
Family Violence, UWS has
developed a
GenSafe Workplaces Programme
for private sector
organisations. The aim is to
help organisations implement a
comprehensive plan to increase
awareness of domestic abuse,
spot the signs of employees
impacted by it, equip them with
the skills to respond to
employees suffering in silence
and ensure a safe and supportive
workplace environment.
I
know you will want to do your
bit to help stop domestic abuse.
Yours faithfully
Victor Mills
