Dear Members and Friends

Your Chamber believes in leaders who continually develop themselves and their teams. Below is an article from your fellow member Linkage Asia which makes for interesting reading.

By the way, our next Leadership Series event will take place on 14 November when Mr. Ho Kwon Ping will be our guest speaker.

Why traditional leadership development programmes are no longer relevant for senior leaders

Senior leaders today have a tough job to do, more so compared to any other time in the history of corporations. We expect our leaders to have the ability to navigate multiple complexities of business and relationships in an adaptive, flexible, speedy and resilient way. Current leadership development programmes have not changed much in the last 30 years and are no longer adequate nor relevant for senior leaders today.

There has been and continues to be a large gap between classroom learning and leadership realities. The way leaders are taught to process problems is still linear rather than adaptive. Training often takes place in a sterile classroom setting without the typical chaos, uncertainty, conflict and complexities we find in the real world.

How can we bridge this gap? What we find most effective in accelerating leadership capabilities is a hybrid approach to learning and development when designing and facilitating leadership programs for senior leaders today. This hybrid approach is based on Harvard Kennedy School’s Ronald Heifetz’s Case-in-Point (CIP) methodology combined with Point-of-View (POV) contributions from participants. Yours faithfully
Victor Mills
