Dear Members and Friends,
A couple of
issues ago, I talked about the
inspirational team at the Association
for Persons with Special Needs (APSN).
They want to challenge your mind-sets on
what people with special needs can do,
especially as employees. Many APSNians
are thriving as retail, hotel and F&B
staff, teacher aides, horticulturists
and Special Olympians.
One such
person is Paul Simon, who is a chef at
Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa.
Paul has been specially invited to cook
for President Halimah Yacob at the
Istana.
Beyond job competence,
APSNians also bring a unique quality to
their work.
Ms. Sharon Tan,
Senior Human Resources Manager,
InterContinental Singapore, shares:
“(Chau Kuok and Firdaus) are actually
sweet and loving at work. They will
always greet us good morning and ask
‘how are you’ when we pass each other
along the corridors. They are very
involved in our daily operations and are
helpful. Working with people with
special needs may seem to require a
little more effort, but what they can
offer back to the organisation is
actually much more.”
In addition
to academic and vocational training,
APSNians are taught self-management,
interpersonal skills, stamina,
punctuality, grooming and good values
making them great candidates for any
suitable job.
Is your mind open?

they can do for your teams and business,

Christopher Tay, CEO APSN at

Together, we can do more.
#TogetherSingapore.
With my very
best regards.
