Dear Members and Friends
This week sees the celebration of Deepavali. Like so many other festivals, the focus is on bringing light to darkness, illuminating ignorance with knowledge and celebrating the ultimate triumph of good over evil. We can all relate to these themes whatever our culture or religion. These are universal, human aspirations - often difficult to achieve but well worth striving for.
In the business context, companies who take their staff for granted or which have contradictory or misleading employment contracts and staff handbooks should take the opportunity of this festival time to do the right thing. They should bring the light of clarity to the darkness of contradictory terms, illuminate the ignorance of mistreating their most valuable assets - their human capital - with action to restore fairness and appreciation.
