Dear Members and Friends
Like many countries, Singapore has a long way to go to achieve inclusiveness. Your Chamber confronts discrimination in the workforce wherever it arises. This week we feature a piece from Disabled Peoples’ Association Singapore which reminds us of a differently abled local talent pool we should not ignore.
Have a great week ahead.
Warmest regards Victor Mills Chief Executive
***************************
Despite there being an estimated 110,000 people with disabilities in Singapore, only 1 in 10 secures a job in the open employment market. Yet, employment for those with disabilities has the potential to make our society more inclusive. In today’s tight labour market, you can’t afford to ignore another local talent pool.
Some myths about employees with disabilities persist. Some believe it is expensive to renovate office premises to accommodate them. In fact, it is often easier and costs less than you might think. SGEnable’s Open Door Programme provides up to 90% subsidies for office renovations and assists with recruitment and training of potential employees with disabilities.
