Dear Members and Friends

This week I am delighted to give space to our friends from TAFEP who will share with you the latest Tripartite Standards for companies. Standards are important. They achieve fair practices and allow companies to implement their business strategies to achieve sustained success. I encourage you to sign up to the Tripartite Standards for companies which most of you already practice. I also look forward to the day when we have Tripartite Standards for employees to ensure an unequivocal message that work is a collaboration between employers and employees. Standards for all, I say. Now read on.

With best regards

Victor Mills
Chief Executive

The Tripartite Standards. A New Initiative by the Tripartite Partners.

As part of efforts to help employers implement good employment practices, the tripartite partners (Ministry of Manpower, National Trades Union Congress, and the Singapore National Employers Federation) have introduced the Tripartite Standards (TS).

Each Tripartite Standard comprises a set of verifiable and actionable employment practices that employers should adopt. By adopting the Tripartite Standards, employers will be able to distinguish themselves and improve their ability to attract and retain talent. They will be listed on TAFEP’s website and may use the Tripartite Standards logomarks in their job advertisements and marketing collaterals.

The Tripartite Standard on Employment of Term Contract Employees was launched on 31 July 2017. The Standard specifies that all term contracts of service of 14 days or more, which are renewed within 1 month from the end of the previous contract, are treated as continuous service. Term contract employees should be provided with leave benefits, and termination notice periods that commensurate with their cumulative length of service. Employers should also provide training to ensure that these employees are able to perform their roles effectively.

To date, more than 300 employers have already signed the Tripartite Standards. More Tripartite Standards will be rolled out successively in the coming months.

For more information on how to adopt the Tripartite Standards, visit TAFEP’s website at www.tafep.sg  or send an email to [email protected].

ONLINE SECURITY ADVISORY

Two members have reported to the Chamber this week that they have received spam/phishing emails with a Chamber subject heading from an unknown company. The email implied that the sender is in some way connected with the Chamber. This is not the case. Please continue to exercise due care and make the following a habit:

Be suspicious of emails from unknown sources.

Do not click on embedded hyperlinks or open attachments in emails from unknown or suspicious sources.

Do not respond or provide information to unknown or suspicious sources.

When in doubt, always check with the SICC secretariat to verify the authenticity of the message.
