Dear Members and Friends
There is so much debate these days about what key skills we all need to have to help us move from job to job in the new digital economy. While building relevant technical or product skills via on the job training or by formal continual learning will be important, practising core transferable skills is paramount to success. They won’t change. What are they?
• |
First off, the right attitude which I define as each employee being interested in the success of the company he/she works for and their role in achieving that success.
|
• |
It follows that if an employee has the right attitude as I have just defined it, then he/she will continually want to challenge the status quo to look for better ways of working and serving the businesses’ customers.
|
• |
The willingness to learn and to keep learning is another facet of possessing the right attitude.
|
• |
As is adaptability and this encompasses mobility – the willingness to take overseas assignments - to develop existing skills and acquire new ones to stay relevant to the business and its internal and external customers.
|
• |
The ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English and all other languages relevant to the business.
|
• |
Optimal teamwork: the ability to work optimally with others in teams including multi-cultural teams across the world to serve customers.
|
• |
Demonstrating a customer centric focus every day. An obsession about quality outcomes and an unrelenting focus on delivering consistently high quality service is key to sustained individual and corporate success.
|
Next week I’ll talk about the employers’ role in all this. Until then, have a great week ahead and let me know what you think via [email protected]. Warmest regards
Victor Mills Chief Executive
