FIQUE FIBERS FROM COLOMBIA: A NATURAL SOLUTION TO DYE-POLLUTED WATERS
3 May, 2019 @6:00 pm- 10:00 pm|
Dyes, such as indigo blue used in denim jeans, pollute waterways near textile processing plants. The presence of these dyes in the water effluents is toxic and reduce the amount of light to the water plants, hence limiting photosynthesis and lowering the content of oxygen in the water. On 3 May 2019, Professor Hinestroza from Cornell University will share a process that he and his collaborators in Colombia have discovered that uses nanomaterials immobilized on fique fibers to decompose these dyes.
